Very cool. I love proxy sites. Strangely enough that one has a Google PageRank of 7 – you’d think Google would penalise them. BTW – check this out – [12 things I bet you didn't know about Google][1] à bientôt, Malkie, Paris.

Exactly. Rejection from a conference is very much a random decision, and should be accepted as such. Its hard to get your paper rejected, but its really not the end of the world – you can always resubmit, or submit to a journal. I had papers rejected from a conference, and accepted to the same conference a year later (after serious rewriting, but without any new results).

Let me just say that the fact that many of the papers could right as
well be in as out just means that many papers are so close to the
threshold that factors such as randomness and the taste of the PC
determines the rank decission. This grey area is painful for the PC,
but it is quite natural in distributions of grades to experience that
those ranked between say 50 and 80 are pretty close.
I would hope that nobody takes a reject as meaning that their
paper is strictly worse than all accepted papers.

I am myself embarassed to admit that I have one of the accepted papers.
Hope it was not in (iii) papers I really really hated.

Actually, 10-20% is reassuring. I would expect at least 50% of the accepted papers to be a function of the PC and/or randomness.
