[DMANET] Computer Science PhD Scholarships and Assistantships Available at Brooklyn Poly
The Department of Computer and Information Science at Polytechnic
University of expects to have several
assistantships and scholarships available for highly qualified
students applying to our PhD program for
the Fall 2006 semester. We welcome applications from all areas of
Computer Science, but especially from
students whose research interests match those of our faculty. We are
particularly interested in applications
in the areas of algorithms (including data structures and
computational geometry), network and computer
security, networking and distributed systems, and databases and web
search engines. Assistantships and
Scholarships cover all tuition plus a monthly stipend for cost of
living.
The US Department of Education has recently awarded us several
fellowships for doctoral study by US
citizens and permanent residents, and we strongly encourage qualified
applicants to apply. In addition, we
also welcome applications by international applicants, who will be
supported from other scholarship and
research funds. Please see
http://www.poly.edu/cis/graduate/phd/admission/
for instructions on how to apply. Applications should be sent in by
February 15, 2006, for fullest consideration,
although later applications may still be considered.
Our department has a strong research-oriented faculty active in a
variety of areas, with particular
strengths in the broad areas of:
* Algorithms and Complexity (computational geometry, data
structures, computational learning
theory, combinatorial optimization)
* Databases and Information Retrieval (database systems, data
mining, spatial databases,
web search technology)
* Networking and Distributed Systems (P2P systems, content
distribution),
* Computer Security (network security, digital forensics, content
protection)
* Software Engineering (software testing and verification)
* Visual Information Processing (image processing, computer
vision, graphics and visualization,
multimedia compression).
Research is supported by multiple government and industry grants,
including a number of NSF Career
Awards and ITR Grants, and is also conducted in collaboration with
the Center for Advanced Telecom-
munication Technology (CATT) at Polytechnic University. For more
information on the department, see

Polytechnic University, also known as Brooklyn Poly, is the second
oldest technological university in the
United States, with a history of pioneering work in areas ranging
from Polymer Chemistry to Microwave
Physics and Computer Networking. Our campus is located in downtown
Brooklyn, within a five-minute
subway ride from lower Manhattan, and close to the ma jor cultural
attractions of New York City. For
