[Compgeom-announce] advanced CG course in Spain
We are pleased to announce the following Advanced Course, which is a
Satellite
Activity of the International Congress of Mathematicians ICM2006, to be
held in
Madrid on August 22-30 (http://www.icm2006.org/).

COMBINATORIAL AND COMPUTATIONAL GEOMETRY: TRENDS AND TOPICS FOR THE FUTURE
DATES: August 31 to September 5, 2006
LECTURERS:
Janos Pach, City College, New York and Renyi Institute, Budapest
Micha Sharir, Tel Aviv University

**********************************************************************************
PLACE: Universidad de Alcala (UAH), Alcala de Henares
The university of Alcala is one of the oldest in Europe; their
venerable
buildings will host the event. Alcala itself is a charming historic
town very close to central Madrid.
ORGANIZING INSTITUTION: Centre de Recerca Matematica (CRM, Barcelona)
COORDINATORS: Manuel Abellanas (UPM), Ferran Hurtado (UPC)
LOCAL ORGANIZERS: David Orden (UAH), Pedro Ramos (UAH)
TOPICS AND STRUCTURE:
This course, taught by two distinguished lecturers, will focus on
fundamental
topics that underlie Discrete and Computational Geometry. The program will
consist of five rounds of two daily lectures (2 hours each lecture, 20
hours
in total) and will put the emphasis on how the main achievements at the
current
status are expected to develop in the future.
Attending the Advanced Course on Combinatorial and Computational
Geometry will
be made compatible with attendance to the
Workshop on Geometric and Topological Combinatorics
http://www2.uah.es/gtc06/
organized by the Universidad de Alcalá and the Universidad de Cantabria,
which
is also a Satellite Activity of the I.C.M. Madrid 2006.
Both activities will be held at the same time and at the same place,
alternating mornings and afternoons.
