TOPICS: Geometric and/or topological combinatorics concerns discrete
structures that arise in a wide array of mathematical contexts, ranging
from enumerative questions about polytopes and other constructions from
linear algebra to the topology of manifolds and algebraic varieties.
This workshop is intended as an informal discussion forum for people
from such fields as combinatorics, discrete geometry, algebraic
geometry, convex geometry, algebraic topology, combinatorial
optimization and theoretical computer science, among others.
STRUCTURE:The workshop will consist of: Five ''main lectures'', one hour each, by Alexander Barvinok, Stefan Felsner, Victor Reiner, Neil Sloane, and Ileana Streinu; Some nine shorter invited talks (40 minutes each); And a poster session, in which all attendants will be allowed to present their recent work. Some posters will be selected for oral presentation as a short communication (about 15 minutes). Which and how many of them will be decided during the workshop.
The Workshop will be intertwined with the advanced course "Combinatorial and Computational Geometry: Trends and topics for the future" (http://www.crm.es/ComputationalGeometry), which will take place in the same dates and place. The scientific programs of both activities are independent, but the timetables will be coordinated to allow attendance to both. The workshop will consist of five "half-days", with Sunday September 3 left free for participants to entertain themselves.
CALL FOR POSTERSIf you are interested in presenting a poster, please contact the organizers in advance. Send an email to santosf@unican.es with a short abstract (Title, authors and some 100 to 200 words, in Latex format). Abstracts will be distributed during the workshop. Deadline for abstract submission: June 30
IMPORTANT DATES: Deadline for application for financial support: April 14, 2006 Deadline for registration: May 15, 2006 Deadline for abstract submission: June 30, 2006.
