[compgeom-announce] Postdoc and PhD student Positions at the MADALGO Centers, University of Aarhus

Postdoc and PhD student Positions at the MADALGO Center

MADALGO, Center for MAssive Data ALGOrithmics, is a major new basic
research center funded by the Danish National Research Foundation,
which will open in the spring of 2007. The center is located at the
Department of Computer Science, University of Aarhus, Denmark, but
also includes researchers at CSAIL, Massachusetts Institute of
Technology and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics. The center
covers all areas of the design, analysis and implementation of
algorithms and data structures for processing massive data
(interpreted broadly to cover computations where data is large
compared to the computational resources), but initial focus will
mainly be on I/O-efficient, cache-oblivious and streaming
algorithms. See http://www.madalgo.au.dk for more information.

Starting in August 2007 or later several positions are available at
the MADALGO Center, under the supervision of Professor Lars Arge
(www.madalgo.au.dk/~large) and Associate Professor Gerth S. Brodal
(www.madalgo.au.dk/~gerth):

Several Postdoctoral positions at the level of Research Assistant
Professor of Computer Science are available. Initially, the positions
are for one year, but they can be extended by mutual
consent. Applications are welcomed from researchers with clearly
demonstrated experience and skills in the design and analysis of
algorithms and data structures. Applicants with experience with
I/O-efficient, cache-oblivious or streaming algorithms, as well as
with implementation of such algorithms (algorithm engineering
experience), will be preferred. The responsibilities of the candidates
include work on algorithms for massive dataset problems in
collaboration with center researchers, along with modest teaching
responsibilities.

Several PhD student positions are also available. The positions are
administered through the BRICS International PhD School (www.brics.dk)
and include full tuition waiver and a competitive scholarship.
Applications are welcomed from students with at least four years of
full-time study by summer of 2007; in special cases students with
between three and four years of study can also be considered. Students
with a strong background in the design and analysis of algorithms will
be preferred.

For further information contact Center Leader, Professor Lars Arge at
large@madalgo.au.dk.

Applicants for the post doc positions should apply by uploading a
letter of interest and a CV, as well as indicate at least two names of
references for recommendations, using the application form available
at www.madalgo.au.dk.

Applicants for the PhD student positions should apply using the BRICS
PhD school application form also accessible from www.madalgo.au.dk.

To be assured of full consideration, applications must arrive by April
1, 2007. Applications will be considered until the positions are
filled.
