Are you interested in obtaining a PhD about the industrial use of mathematics, and study for the PhD in a country different from where you live now? Or do you want to perform postdoctoral research? If this is the case, you should consider applying for a PhD-fellowship (36 months) or a post-doctoral contract (6 months) in the SAGA project at Universidad de Cantabria (Santander, Spain).

SAGA is a EU-financed Marie Curie Initial Training Network consisting of a total of ten partners coming from Austria, France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Norway and Spain. SAGA participants are universities, research institutes and industrial companies. The main objective of the network is to train PhD-fellows and young researchers within selected research topics well suited for a later career in industry and academia. SAGA started November 1, 2008 and will end October 31, 2012.

To be eligible for a SAGA PhD-position you must have less than 4 years of research experience after your master degree. Consequently, you will be eligible for a 36-month SAGA fellowship if you obtain a master degree (computational mathematics, applied geometry and algebra, numerical analysis or related fields) before the end of October 2009. To be eligible for a SAGA post-doctoral position you should have a PhD degree and you must have less than 5 years of research experience after your master degree. Note that you are not eligible for a position in the country where you have lived the last couple of years. SAGA has the ambition of filling at least 40% of its positions with female candidates. Therefore we especially urge women to apply.

The salary and other compensations in the Marie Curie program vary between countries according to specific Marie Curie rules. In many countries, including Spain, Marie Curie salaries are higher than the standard national rates for PhD fellows and post-doctoral researchers. Employment contracts in Marie Curie Initial Training Networks provide full social benefits, and the fellow pays taxes as any other employee in the recruiting organization.
