[compgeom-announce] s.fekete@tu-bs.de: Position at TU Braunschweig
The Algorithms Group in the Department of Computer Science at
Braunschweig Institute of Technology (http://www.tu-bs.de) in Germany
offers a wide range of interdisciplinary research activities. The
group, headed by Professor Dr. Sandor P. Fekete
(http://www.ibr.cs.tu-bs.de/users/fekete), has a vacancy
for a computer scientist or mathematician,
starting in October or November (exact date negotiable).
We are looking for a scientific employee / PhD student or postdoctoral
research associate (TV-L 13, three years, BMBF project "Real-World
G-Lab").
There are no teaching obligations, but researchers will have the
opportunity to interact with students in the context of their
projects. Pay is according to the German bracket "TV-L 13" (About 2800
Euros gross per month).
We are looking for applicants with an above-average degree in
mathematics or computer science (Master's degree or equivalent, e.g.
German Diploma, resp. PhD degree), who have a solid knowledge in
optimization and algorithms, an interest in and a capability for a
wide range of scientific work (from developing ideas all the way to
their practical realization), an open mind for the other activities of
our department, and a healthy team spirit.
Some topics that may arise during the project are the following. We do
not expect that applicants will know all of these; being proficient in
several areas will be an important asset.
- Modelling and abstraction of real-world problems.
- Algorithm design.
- Analysis of distributed algorithms and protocols.
- Self-stabilizing algorithms.
- Complexity and lower bounds for distributed problems.
- Internetworking and (mobile) IPv6.
- Overlay/peer-to-peer networks.
- Programming for embedded devices.
Proficiency in English is a must. Previous research experience and
knowledge of LaTeX, programming languages, and relevant technologies
are a plus.
We are offering an opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree and the
participation in exciting interdisciplinary projects that span all the
way from basic research in algorithms to its practical and technical
application. As a member of our group, you will be part of a motivated
team that maintains various interdisciplinary and international
contacts and activities.
Among applicants with equal qualifications, handicapped persons will
be given a preference. The Braunschweig Institute of Technology is an
equal-opportunity employer and encourages women to apply.
